This new recording from Laoise O’Brien, a collaborative project with Grammy Award-winning engineer, Ben Rawlins, combines centuries-old melodies with the music of the natural world around the River Boyne.

The album incorporates live performance and the ambient sounds of the land and waterways of Ireland, and features many themes that are woven in the narrative of the recording. These include: the legend of Bóinn, the Tuatha Dé Danann, the Otherworld, fire festivals, the harp and other instruments in mythology, the Salmon of Knowledge, Tristan & Isolde, warriors and battles, and much much more.

In creating the album we began our journey in Carbury, Co. Kildare, where the Boyne rises, paying our respects at the Fairy Hill, later known as Trinity Hill and source of the legend of the Goddess Boann. We then travelled to Dowth at Brú na Boinne to record the material on the banks of the river, surrounded by mythology and Ireland’s ancient past. Finally, we followed the river to the sea at Mornington, just east of Drogheda, to bid farewell to the Goddess as she finishes her journey and begins her next adventure…🧜‍♀️
